FIRST BANGOR PRESBYTERIAN

Due to the structural instability of the existing church buildings, located to the rear of the church, our client had decided to demolish those buildings and build a new flexible church building which would service both the church and local community’s needs. The new accommodation includes: conference meeting facilities; music room; vestry; catering kitchen; minister’s room; church office and new welcome area with coffee bar. This new accommodation was designed to seamlessly integrate with the existing church and add much-needed disabled accessibility to the existing buildings.

The scheme has been designed to provide a new welcome area for the church and the accommodation is designed to be as flexible as possible, allowing the church to pursue ideas such as after-schools clubs, etc. The works also include extensive dry rot eradication within the main church.

Working on a tight budget and with a site that is entirely “land locked” with no direct access from the church land, has created a very unique set of challenges to overcome to realise the scheme.  By working closely with the client and the EHS we believe that we have successfully created a scheme which both realises the client’s aspirations and is architecturally sympathetic to the listed church.
